Cancer is one of those diseases which comes unannounced but has the potential to turn your whole life upside down in a matter of weeks. It takes a toll on each and every person who is involved in the treatment and demands an excruciating amount of time and effort on all fronts. Recently there has been an upsurge in the number of negative reviews and are often highlighted as “Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital Cheating” cases. Through my personal experience, I can say that most of these complaints are falsified or exaggerated claims. I still remember the time when my aunt suddenly got sick and after a series of tests, it was found that she had breast cancer. We were shocked as our family had no history of the disease in our family and it was in the 2nd stage. We were told that the cancer is progressing very aggressively. We consulted many hospitals but were not satisfied with their suggested course of action. I reached out to a cancer support group and they provided me with the number of an oncologist who asked us to meet him at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre. We were taken aback by the hospitality that they offered us and the doctor told us a very reasonable and cost-effective method which would get rid of cancer in a very effective way. We quickly made up our mind that this is the hospital we want to trust with our family. In the very beginning only we were told that the path we are going to take is a very hard one and we will have to be the ones that will give strength to our aunt. We were told to be supportive and were given family counselling on how to interact with our aunt during these tough times.

The patient care program was amazing and the staff and doctors made sure that our aunt was in a good mental space throughout the treatment. We were updated frequently about the treatments and how the doctors were thinking about the condition of our aunt. Since the cancer was aggressive and had spread to a large area it was decided that surgery must be conducted. After the surgery, our aunt was given the utmost attention by all the nurses and doctors. The patient care program made sure that she was active and would also be accompanied out to the front lawn of the hospital. This made my aunt cheerful from the very start and she started to wait to go outside as that brought a smile to her face. The surgery and chemotherapy in the post-surgery was a success and my aunt was cleared of the disease in 3 months. All throughout everyone was very supportive and gave the moral support that was needed by all of us. Going through a harrowing experience like this and coming back unscathed I can say with confidence that the online articles that highlight the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital scam are just a part of a misinformation campaign and one should not pay any heed to them. These scams will come and go but the good work that everyone puts in at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre will never go in vain. It is my humble request to ignore any such negative reviews and posts.
